A record-breaking 252,000 cars rolled off the production lines at the Kia Motors Slovakia plant in Teplička nad Váhom near Žilina last year. The plant also made 359,000 engines in 2011. The company reported a pre-tax profit of €68.6 million, with sales going up 15 percent and production 10 percent in year-on-year terms.
"We have invested some €200 million in building a second engine plant and preparing for production of the new version of the Kia cee'd model. Last year, we hired some 900 new employees and launched a third shift this January. In 2012, we plan to make over 285,000 vehicles and invest some €110 million." Kia Motors Slovakia CEO Eek-Hee Lee told the SITA newswire. Last year the company’s sales stood at €3.328 billion, with export sales amounting to €3.278 billion. Almost 99 percent of the cars it produced in 2011 were shipped abroad.
