The prosecution of Ivan Lexa, the former boss of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS), on charges of orchestrating the 1995 kidnapping of Michal Kováč Jr. to Austria, were suspended June 30 by a Bratislava district court.
The Justice Ministry's Daniel Lipšic said that the case had been dropped because of the March 1998 amnesty granted by then-Prime Minster Vladimír Mečiar to anyone ever found to have been involved in the case.
The decision is not yet final as the prosecutor appealed the decision to the Bratislava Regional Court. However, even were Lexa absolved of the kidnapping allegations, he still faces numerous charges of abuse of power and larceny.
