President Andrej Kiska on June 23 officially received Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák - the first member of government he has met since taking office.
Kiska and Lajčák discussed the president’s schedule concerning foreign policy for the upcoming period.
“We also spoke about rules of communication, the organisation of foreign visits, the preparation of documents and about general interaction [between the two of us], as the head of state has quite considerable authority in the area of foreign policy,” Lajčák said, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
In July, Kiska will travel for official visits to neighbouring countries. First he will go to the Czech Republic on July 9, then to Poland on July 15 and Austria July 17. In early September, Kiska will lead the Slovak delegation at the NATO summit, and in late September he will represent Slovakia at the UN General Assembly in New York.
Other obligations of the head of state in the area of foreign policy will arise after Slovakia assumes the presidency of the Visegrad Four group (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) on July 1.
