THE WIFE of former Czech President Václav Klaus, Lívia Klausová, has returned to her birthplace Bratislava as new Czech ambassador to Slovakia. She presented her credentials to Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič on December 16.
During their meeting both Gašparovič and Klausová praised the high level of bilateral relations between Slovakia and the Czech Republic and concurred that these could be exploited on foreign markets, the TASR newswire wrote.
“I’m glad that in addition to traditionally excellent political and economic cooperation we have managed to maintain the cultural and human proximity of our nations,” Gašparovič said, as quoted by TASR.
The two sides further concluded that they could boost cooperation on transport and energy infrastructure projects and in the field of defence, TASR wrote.
Klausová had already presented copies of her credentials to Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák on December 13. She was appointed in July and was waiting for official confirmation from the Slovak authorities up until mid-October.
Some commentators consider her appointment a reward to Klausová and her husband for supporting Miloš Zeman in Czech presidential elections, the Sme daily wrote.
