The only Hungarian university in Slovakia could close its doors, the Pravda daily wrote on September 12.
Under new rules prepared by Education Minister Ján Mikolaj (SNS), Komárno University would be changed to a special school that is not authorised to grant university degrees.
Those rules would probably also apply to the Catholic University in Ružomberok.
The proposed amendment to the university law would divide universities into three groups.
Mikolaj has almost finished the criteria for dividing the schools, which will be more advantageous for technical schools.
