An anonymous bomb threat was made by telephone on May 7 to the building that houses the Košice District and Regional Courts, prompting the evacuation of judges, employees and all participants in legal proceedings.
"In a telephone call received … at around 8:30, a male voice announced that a bomb was about to explode at the court. Police patrols and dogs trained to locate explosives were immediately despatched to the scene. The pyrotechnic search was concluded by 11:00 with a negative result," said Košice Regional Police spokesperson Jana Mesárová, as quoted by the TASR newswire. The police have already launched an investigation into panic-mongering, a criminal offence. Any perpetrator caught and found guilty could face up to five years in jail.
