Collectors can now buy a silver commemorative €20 coin to mark the occasion of Košice’s hosting of the European Capital of Culture, the TASR newswire wrote.
The coin comes courtesy of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) and the mint in Kremnica. One side of the coin features the city’s skyline, as depicted by Flemish painter and engraver Georg Hoefnagel in 1617. The reverse side shows an image of Košice’s gothic St Elisabeth’s Cathedral, designed by Karol Ličko.
The coins will cost €45.50, and proof coins will be priced at €51. Over the past 20 years, the NBS has issued numerous coins to mark important events and commemorate important Slovak historical figures.
