ON MAY 7 the Košice municipal office announced a competition called Košice in Bloom that will continue until September 15.
A jury will award prizes in three categories: individual homes (for balconies and front yards); apartment blocks (for balconies); and the city’s historical centre (for balconies).
The aesthetic appeal and the overall look of the balconies and front yards will be evaluated by an expert jury made up of a representative of the Department of Environment, a representative of the city’s green administration, its department of marketing and tourism, and its department of culture, along with the Office of the City Architect and the Mayor of Košice.
The results will be announced in September during the Košice Wine Festival and winners will be awarded with a selection of plants from the greenhouses of the city’s green administration in Bernátovce.
Interested contestants can apply by e-mail by sending their address or a photograph of their entry before May 30.
“Košice has been a blooming town for many years. Flowers, specifically three golden lilies, are a part of the city’s coat of arms granted to Košice by Louis I of Hungary on May 7, 1369,” Košice Mayor František Knapík told the SITA newswire.
