The Košice Steel Arena is to be the venue of a lavish performance of one of the world's most popular operas, Carmen, on April 24, organisers announced on April 17.
It is produced by Franz Abraham, a German promoter who is famous for his monumental musical events. The stop in Slovakia is a part of the production’s European tour, which it began in December after enormous success overseas.
"Steel Arena is the only site in Slovakia that meets all the technical requirements for the performance, which is why it will be the only one in Slovakia," promoter Robert Probstner of Hi-Reklama told the TASR newswire.
Carmen was composed in 1875 years ago by Georges Bizet. Based on the novella by French writer Propser Mérimeé, it tells the story of Spanish soldier Don Jose and an Andalusian gypsy woman named Carmen. It is the most-performed opera in history. TASR
