THE BANSKÁ Bystrica self-governing region is allegedly shredding documents and contracts, and erasing computer hard drives, according to Marian Kotleba, who was recently elected to govern the region. He filed a criminal complaint over the abuse of power by a public official and embezzlement with police on November 25. Yet, region spokesperson Monika Pastuchová has called the allegations nonsense.
“We received the information directly from employees of the [regional] office, and as soon as Mr Kotleba learned about it, he filed a criminal complaint,” Miroslav Belička, a member of Kotleba’s People’s Party – Our Slovakia (ĽSNS), told the SITA newswire, without providing any further details.
Belička also said he considers it a response to Kotleba’s statement that one of his first priorities will be to check all agreements on delivering goods and services whose amount exceeds €2,660, the TASR newswire wrote.
Pastuchová denied the allegations, saying that they will cooperate with the police during the investigation, SITA reported.
Suspicions of document shredding emerged in internet discussions after current Banská Bystrica Region Governor Vladimír Maňka postponed the session of the newly elected parliament, scheduled for November 29, as reported by SITA.
Pastuchová told TASR that the session was delayed because 13 new deputies had said they could not attend it. The session will be rescheduled on a date that works for all 49 deputies.
