ATTORNEY General Milan Hanzel appealed the decision of the Bratislava Regional Court to halt proceedings in the infamous 1995 kidnapping case of the former president's son, Michal Kováč Jr. According to the prosecution, the kidnapping was organised by the secret service under former head Ivan Lexa.
The court cited a blanket amnesty issued in the kidnapping case in 1998 by then-PM Vladimír Mečiar, acting under powers inherited from outgoing President Kováč.
The Supreme Court must now rule on Hanzel's appeal, which is the Dzurinda government's last hope of keeping the case alive.
