Nothing stands in the way of the project Košice for European Capital of Culture 2013 running at full steam, Culture Minister Daniel Krajcer said on Thursday, March 17.
"A total of €60 million has been secured for the project," Krajcer said, as reported by the TASR newswire. "All the preparation and project works can now run at full capacity. We've made an agreement with Košice Mayor Richard Raši and Košice Region Governor Zdenko Tribula ensuring that this project will be about positive results and not politics."
"This is not a project of a decade but rather a century for Košice," Raši said "We're continuing the preparations so as to have the investment activities ready and carried out by 2013."
The European Capital of Culture is a city designated by the European Union for a period of one calendar year during which it organises a series of cultural events with a strong European dimension. Acting as a European Capital of Culture can be an opportunity for a city to generate considerable cultural, social and economic benefits and can help foster urban renewal, change a city's image and raise its visibility and profile on the international stage.
