Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan has scathingly criticised the actions of Hungarian Slovak MP Miklós Duray, who on April 13 attended a political rally for Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán and expressed support for Orbán in the second round of Hungarian parliamentary elections. Duray, said Kukan, “should be embarrassed, should blush... I am personally very glad he received this slap in the face [Orbán’s election defeat]”. Duray had told the rally crowd that “Felvidék is with you, Felvidék supports you, Viktor.” Felvidék is a Hungarian expression meaning “upper Hungary”, an area which under the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy included part of Slovakia.
