Labour Centre: Unemployment rate was 8.06 percent in January

Unemployment in Slovakia rose by 0.07 percentage points month-on-month in January to 8.06 percent, the Centre for Labour, Social Affairs and the Family (UPSVaR) announced on February 18. When compared to the same period last year, the unemployment rate had fallen by 1.39 percentage points, the TASR newswire wrote.

In January 2008, labour offices reported 210,301 unemployed people immediately available for work, which is up by 2,438 on the month, but down by 35,334 on the year. The unemployment rate in January 2008, as calculated from the overall number of people looking for work, reached 9.29 percent. Compared to December 2007, it represents a 0.06 percentage-point increase, but is 1.44 percentage points lower on the year. There were 242,417 people officially looking for work in January. TASR
