Labour minister says director of Sociálna Poisťovňa should resign from post

Dušan Muňko, the general director of the state-run social insurer Sociálna Poisťovňa (SP), who was put in his position by Smer party, should resign from the post if he now wants to be active as an MP, Labour Minister Jozef Mihál (SaS) said after a government session on Wednesday, July 14, the TASR newswire reported. Muňko was elected as an MP from Smer in the June parliamentary election. “It isn’t entirely normal to hold two such important posts at the same time. He should decide whether he’ll be an MP or the general director of Sociálna Poisťovňa,” said Mihál to TASR, indicating, however, that it will not be easy to dislodge Muňko as SP general director.

“The law holds,” said Muňko when asked by the media whether he will resign from the post of director. Mihál conceded that the law does not bind Muňko to choose between the two posts and suggested that it would be good to change the legislation.
