Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajčák will be Slovakia's next foreign minister. Lajčák personally confirmed reports of his imminent appointment on Thursday, March 22, the SITA newswire reported.
The full list of ministerial nominees in the new cabinet led by Robert Fico (Smer) is to be released on Monday, March 26. Fico, whose party won an unprecedented majority in the March 10 parliamentary elections, has already announced that Marek Maďarič will serve as culture minister, Robert Kaliňák as interior minister and Peter Kažimír as finance minister.
Lajčák currently works at the EU's External Action Service as Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Neighbourhood and Western Balkans. Lajčák previously served as Slovak foreign minister during the first Fico government from January 2009 to July 2010. He also served as the international High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007-2009.
