SLOVAKIA is hoping for Ukraine and Russia to agree soon on the price of natural gas, a dispute that prompted Russia to cut gas supplies to Ukraine earlier this month.

Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák expressed this hope at the June 23 EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, the TASR newswire reported.

At the same time, Lajčák stressed that Slovakia has taken all steps to ensure the reverse gas flow to Ukraine.

Ukraine was the central topic of the council, according to Lajčák. New Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin attended the meeting as well and presented the EU ministers with the peace plan of Ukraine’s new President Petro Poroshenko, TASR reported.

EU ministers have welcomed the peace plan, which they view as having a good chance in terms of de-escalating the tensions in eastern Ukraine, Lajčák informed TASR.
