The current state of economic diplomacy in Slovakia reflects neither the needs nor the potential of the country, said Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák. According to him, recent years have witnessed an increasing significance or even dominance of economic topics in international relations.
“Besides, in times of crisis the domestic and the international priorities are even closer,” Lajčák was quoted by the TASR newswire as saying. “Significant economisation of Slovakia’s foreign policy is a reality.”
The Foreign Affairs Minister believes an intensive dialogue among all the relevant actors in the area of economic relations is necessary both for economic prosperity and positive development as well as for maintaining and strengthening Slovakia’s position on the international scene. He called for intensive communication between state bodies, various institutions and entrepreneurs.
“We want to help the business sphere to soften the impacts of the crisis and at the same time we need its ideas, cooperation and feedback,” he said.
Lajčák said the world’s economy is in its worst state since the great economic depression of the 1930s but that the success story of Slovakia, which is in many respects exceptional, must continue. TASR
