Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák met his Hungarian counterpart Peter Balazs in the Slovenian town of Bled on Sunday, August 30, to discuss a possible meeting between the Slovak and Hungarian premiers and ways to improve bilateral relations, the TASR newswire wrote.
“It wasn't an easy conversation but I view it as the re-establishment of a standard and responsible dialogue,” said Lajčák after the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum.
One of the issues discussed was preparations for a meeting between Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and head of the Hungarian Government Gordon Bajnai which should take place in the near future. Another topic was activation of existing bilateral tools such as mixed commissions and co-operation between parliamentary committees, reported the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry's spokesman, Peter Stano.
Lajčák assured his counterpart that Slovakia's new State Language Act wasn't aimed against the country’s Hungarian ethnic minority, that Slovakia takes its fair implementation very seriously, and that it has nothing to hide regarding this piece of legislation, Stano added. TASR
