Lajčák to represent Slovakia at farewell to Mandela

DEPUTY Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák will represent Slovakia at the official farewell for the late former South African president Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg on Tuesday, the TASR newswire reported.

The farewell ceremony is set to take place at the Johannesburg football stadium, which holds 95,000 people.

The event is to be attended by, among many others, US President Barack Obama with his wife Michelle Obama, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, French President Francois Hollande and German President Joachim Gauck.

Mandela died at the age of 95 in Johannesburg on Thursday. The state funeral will take place in Qunu, where Mandela spent his childhood, on December 15.
