Customs officers in the Prešov region intercepted over 17.5 million packets of smuggled cigarettes, with a market value of Sk46.3 million (€1.16 million), the largest such haul yet in Slovakia, according to the daily SME.
According to Prešov police headquarters spokesperson, Magdaléna Fečová, if the smugglers had sold the cigarettes the state would have lost Sk34.8 million in excise taxes.
Customs officers intercepted the cartons of Super Kings and Sovereign Classic cigarettes December 11, on the border with Poland near the village of Vyšný Komárnik.
