SLOVAKIA has presented its demands for the last phase of accession negotiations to the EU, indicating possible solutions to open problems regarding chapters on agriculture and financing.

"There is certain room for [maneuver]," Slovakia's head negotiator with the Union, Ján Figeĺ, said after meeting European representatives in Brussels November 4.

The meeting was the first "warm-up" round of final negotiations with the EU, which should result in a wrap-up agreement at the Copenhagen summit on December 12 and 13.

Figeĺ told his EU counterparts that Slovakia was dissatisfied with the proposed model of direct agricultural payments - starting with 25 per cent of those for current members with a gradual increase to parity over 10 years.
