SLOVAKIA is again under the spell of Harry Potter. The most anticipated book of the year, the Slovak version of the book of adventures of the adolescent wizard, was officially released onto the Slovak market on January 17, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote.
The Slovak translation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, called Harry Potter a Dary Smrti, immediately jumped to the top of the country's book charts.
On January 17, when a Harry Potter show in the National Tennis Centre launched the sale of the book, hundreds of fans poured in to get their hands on it.
"Within an hour, 653 copies were sold," Mária Lešková from the Ikar publishing house told the daily. "We sold only 100,000 copies of the previous books."
Of the 75,000 Slovak copies, 60,000 are already in bookshops.
The English version of the book was released on July 21, 2007 and its sale in Slovakia started the same day. However, it had a lacklustre reception in Slovakia, selling only about 130 copies upon its midnight release.
