Former Austrian MP Eva Glawischnig has abandoned her lawsuit against Slovak power producer Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) that demanded the closure of the first and second unit of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant (EMO).
SE spokesperson Juraj Kopřiva said that the plaintiff had agreed in early February to drop the case, the SITA newswire wrote.
"This is more proof that EMO reactors are safe, reliable and that they meet all international criteria," SE director general Paolo Ruzzini said.
Glawischnig brought the suit in 1998 on grounds that the EMO poses a threat to the people living near Vienna.
According to SE, the plaintiffs failed to provide any information or evidence that supported their position.
"To the contrary, many international assessment reports came to the conclusion that nuclear reactors operated in Slovakia are in line with or exceed the framework of international nuclear safety requirements," said Ruzzini. SITA
