THE CENTRE of Slovak Language, to be launched in the US, will enable US businesspeople, and anyone else who is interested, to learn the Slovak language online.
Slovak Education Minister Dušan Čaplovič signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports and the California University of Pennsylvania, the TASR newswire wrote.
The project provides an online study programme for Slovak and was designed mainly for companies and organisations with business contacts in Slovakia such as, for example, U.S. Steel, applicants to Slovak university studies and organisations in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and West Virginia.
According to the ministry, there are 1.2 million people living in the US who claim Slovak nationality. Most of them live in Pennsylvania (especially in Pittsburgh) and Ohio, with a smaller group in New Jersey.
The online courses will be based on content created by Studia Academica Slovaca, part of Comenius University’s Faculty of Philosophy, focusing on Slovak for foreign students.
The California University of Pennsylvania, the American partner in the project, will provide marketing and assign potential students to courses, among other things.
