Letter to the Editor: Austria no axis member

Font size: A - | A +

Dear Editor,

THE STATEMENT in your editorial "Fuzzy thinking and the survivor mentality", Vol.8 No.11, March 25-31 ["the countries which forced such genocide on Slovakia were Germany and its axis allies Austria and Hungary"] is a piece of bloody historical nonsense and distorts a little your otherwise very interesting journal.

The state of Austria ceased to exist after the 'Anschluss' in March 1938. Not even the 'Ostmark' as successor was liked by Hitler. How can a state which does not exist be a member of an axis or coalition?

That the Austrians fought in the German army is a fact, but then Slovaks, Hungarians, Rumanians and Belgians also fought alongside the Germans.
