Letter to the Editor: British immigration policy borders on harassment

Font size: A - | A +

Dear Editor,

Re: British Embassy doing its best to make visas "pain free" (Letters to the Editor, Vol. 5 No. 25, June 28 to July 4).

I have read your last two articles about visa problems at the British Embassy, and I just want to add one unpleasant experience. Not knowing about "The Hunt on Slovak Witches," I booked a flight to visit my family in Bratislava via British Airways which connected through London. By a miracle I got to Slovakia without any problems.

Everything started when my family and I tried to board our British Airways return flight from Zurich to London. I was told point blank that I couldn't travel to London to make my connection to Denver. The reason? I didn't have a transfer visa!

Now I can understand that British are concerned at the wave of illegal immigrants that have come from Slovakia recently. But a transfer visa? I would call that harassment!
