I want to commend you for your courage in reporting the many incredible follies, thefts, and mafia horrors of the past government. Be careful someone does not destroy your premises!
Thank you also for printing a photo [Vol. 5 No. 25, June 28 to July 4] of the villa owned by the Rezeš family in Spain [Alexander Rezeš was a Transport Minister in the former Mečiar government and privatised a large stake in the steel giant VSŽ Košice]. I think it would have been appropriate for you to have said that therein lies one of the many reasons why the old people of this state will never see the pension raises promised them come true. It would be great if you could print photos of the many other such 'palaces' acquired by Mečiar's friends, and indeed, Mečiar's villa in Trenčianské Teplice.
But sometimes I read between the lines that you are not totally sympathetic with the present government. I judge Dzurinda's courage equal to yours - he has attacked corruption bravely, and, I am sure, at some danger to his own person and other members of his government. He is doing exactly what a good government should do in a similar situation, and if he does not weaken, in time, the parliamentary problems will be ironed out.
I live in a town in western Slovakia. There is a serious problem here that should be looked at. The former mayor is said to have sold some town property to his 'pals' for one Slovak crown, on condition that he receives 'benefits' from the proposed construction when finished. This has taken from us a park where children play, and a parking area for several blocks of apartments, while it promises to give us all the ugliness that will be created if this proposal goes ahead. Nobody seems to know exactly what the buildings are to be, and of course, nobody can prove anything of what I have just said, but too many people are saying the same thing, so there must be something to it. It needs to be investigated and the truth published. And before they begin excavating.
