Letter to the Editor: Let the voters decide

Font size: A - | A +

Dear Editor,

I AGREE with the concern expressed in Roman Hoferek's letter ["Sick of US pressure on Slovak voters", Vol.8 No.9, March 11-17]. The coming elections in Slovakia should not be influenced by external pressure, or for a better word, blackmail regarding EU and Nato entry. These issues are not the only reasons for Slovaks to elect their next government. As a voter I am more concerned whether the next government will improve the economy, unemployment, the trade balance, education and health care, than whether we join Nato or the EU. These last two are issues which affect the exterior rather than the interior of the country.

Slovakia is still a young country and has time to join these institutions when the advantages and disadvantages are considered by both sides. Let's let the Slovak people elect their government without outside interference from other governments and media.
