Dear Editor,
I am writing as a very confused English resident of Banská Bystrica. For over 11 months now I have bitten my tongue when treated badly in various public places, such as shops, post offices and government offices. The grim faces, the absence of manners (even towards paying customers) are all too common.
I find this rudeness difficult to reconcile with the fact that everyone who knows my name and that of my Slovak wife (although not necessarily acquianted with us personally) is genuinely and sincerly nice.
