Daniel Markus, an Australian ex-pat who has been teaching English at Bratislava's Gymnázium Matky Alexie for seven years, gave his English students (16 to 17 years old) an assignment in November: write a Letter to the Editor based on something they read in Vol. 5 No. 38 of The Slovak Spectator. Here is some of what they wrote:
Dear Editor,
I was very surprised when I read an article about Ragtime Radio leaving the airwaves. This radio existed for almost six years, and for me it became the best radio here in Bratislava.
I don't know why, but everything that is good here in Slovakia quickly expires. The new radio, B1, will soon be a commercial station like Fun Radio or Rock FM.
September 30 was a very bad day for me because Ragtime belonged to Bratislava.
