A Europe founded on ignorance?

Dear Editor,

I completely agree with your article ["Portuguese expats in Slovakia longing for compatriots," by Martina Pisárová, Vol. 6 No. 23, June 12-18]. I'm studying at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. There is very little information here about Slovakia. Most of the information I have about Slovakia was given to me by Slovak friends. There seems to exist a complete lack of knowledge about a country that soon will be part of the EU. And how many Slovaks have any idea of what Portugal is like? What kind of Europe are we building?

The Slovak Spectator still blinded to the rest of the country

Dear Editor,

A few years ago I rang up your office when I was living and working in Košice to point out that your title is something of a misnomer. The Bratislava Spectator would be rather more appropriate.

It seems that with the passing of time, and despite the fact that the Slovak president has close connections with a city other than the capital, your view of this small country is still rather myopic.

Sadly, there is not enough space here to elaborate.
