Skinheads should better represent their country

Dear Editor,

As an American of Slovak ancestry, I am proud of the way our Slovak contingent represents itself on the St. Louis Blues NHL hockey team.

After reading your article on skinheads ["Beating leaves victims silent" by Martina Pisárová, Vol. 6 No. 11, March 20 to 26], I wish I had the opportunity to speak directly to young Slovak skinheads so as to say, 'Turn in your baseball bats for ice skates or soccer balls so that you might also present a positive image of Slovakia... rather than just zmätok [perplexing disorder]!'

Criminals must be fought at the top

Dear Editor,

Milan Ištván, in his loyalty to the former communist regime, and in which aura he still exists, must of course defend Biľak ['Quote of the Week - SDĽ deputy Milan Ištván', Vol. 6 No. 15, April 17 to 23]. From him that is expected. But to compare the prosecution of former communist leaders to a medieval witch hunt, and then to say that these matters should be dealt with by historians, shows how off base he really is. Witch hunters are no more because they have been 'dealt' with. And the Biľaks of this world would be no more too were they to be dealt with. There are still too many of them in comfortable hiding places all over the world. American presidents have been punished for crimes far more severe than Biľak's.

Criminals at the top, whether yesterday's or today's, must be dealt with if we wish to diminish criminality at the bottom. Judging by the number of crimes our Slovak newspapers are reporting, this cleansing should start soon.

Spectacular Slovakia web-site appreciated

Dear Editor,

I'd just like to say that the travel page [www.travel.sk] is very impressive and contains very nice pictures. I am Slovak and I am studying here in South Carolina, but this page is the best among those I found on the Internet. Good job!

Dear Editor,

Thank you for such a GREAT web site - Travel Guide: Spectacular Slovakia 1999-2000. My sister and I will be visiting Slovakia in May as an extension to a conference in Vienna. It is a trip we have both been dreaming about for decades - to go to Slovakia and visit the relatives. Now we are doing it and your web site will make our trip that much easier. After reading different parts of your information, now I want to see everything, not just the towns and villages where the cousins live!
