Former Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) director and HZDS deputy Ivan Lexa is asking for a television and radio in his Nitra jail cell, complaining that the lack of information is cutting him off from political life. But Interior Ministry Chief Investigator Jaroslav Ivor said that his request would not be granted.
Lexa's family has also protested the fact that Lexa is not being supplied with the documents being discussed in parliament, thus preventing him from taking part in political discussion. Lexa is also complaining about psychic terror because he can shower only once a week and because, during his first walk, other prisoners bombarded him with vulgar words. The Lexa's said that they consider Ivan to be the first political prisoner since 1989.
HZDS deputy Lexa is in preliminary custody on charges of the misuse of power associated with the abduction of Michal Kováč Jr. to Austria in 1995. Though parliament stripped him of his constitutionally granted immunity earlier this year, he is still entitled to keep his seat in the parliament unless convicted of a crime.
