At its two-day session in the High Tatras, the Association of Towns and Villages (ZMOS), discussed a project of decentralisation and public administration reform that would serve as a jumping off point for further decentralisation and reform strategies.
In the future, Chair of the Chamber of Villages Jozef Mrkva said, there will probably be no districts, a second level of Slovak state organization below regions. In regional associations and districts, a discussion on shaping local administration bodies to perform the activities now performed by the districts would begin.
The Cabinet Council for Public Administration will likely discuss the strategy of decentralisation and reform beginning June 17. By 2001 the network of regional administration should be ready, ZMOS said.
