THE PROSECUTOR rejected an appeal November 12 by three police officers charged in connection with lost wiretap evidence from the Interior Ministry's archive.
Among the missing recordings are wiretapped calls made by Pavol Bielik, mayor of the Rača district in Bratislava and a member of the Christian Democratic Movement, the SITA news agency wrote.
Spokesperson for the state's attorney's office, Svetlana Husárová, confirmed that the prosecution of the three officers would continue.
In October the three officers were accused of abuse of public office and suspended from duty. The prosecution alleges that the officers neglected their duties when they failed to ensure the safe keeping of the recorded phone calls.
Due to a failure in the Interior Ministry's archive system in March 2004, 45 recordings relating to ten cases were lost. Among them are seven recordings relating to Bielik's case. He is facing a corruption charge due to allegedly demanding a bribe of Sk5 million (€125,000).
