The Doctors Trade Union Association (LOZ) on Tuesday, February 28, presented a draft of an ethics code that they pledged to draw up according to the memorandum that ended their mass protest last year. Hundreds of hospital doctors simultaneously quit their jobs in December in a dispute over pay, hospital reorganisation, and other matters.
According to LOZ chairman Marián Kollár, the code may not become effective before the end of April, as the current government, he said, has no right to demand anything from the trade union members just a few days before a general election. The code has been submitted for public debate in the meantime, Kollár said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. The measures include the introduction of public lists of waiting periods for operations, the possibility to select a specific doctor by payment of a set fee after a patient is admitted to hospital, and publication of all contracts between health insurers and health providers, according to LOZ vice-chair Jan Sýkora.
