Less than half of the business managers contacted in a recent survey say they are planning to hire more workers in the next two years, with most saying that they face over-employment and if anything will be firing staff to increase labour productivity. The main factor in their decisions, they claim, is the over 38 per cent they pay on employee salaries in levies to social security funds.
These levies were selected by the managers as the fourth most serious barrier to doing business in Slovakia, with 50 per cent of respondents in the Trend Analyses survey selecting it as a problem.
The greatest problem was seen to be complicated laws (71 per cent) followed by the working of the courts (70 per cent) and corruption (64 per cent).
