If parliamentary elections had been held in mid-March, the ruling party Smer would win with 38 percent of votes. Next would be the opposition Christian-Democrat Movement (KDH) with 13.4 percent; the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) would be third with 12.7 percent, based on the results of a telephone survey carried out by Polis agency between March 13 and 16 on a sample of 1,280 respondents, the SITA newswire wrote.
Also the new parties SaS and Most-Híd would make it to parliament, garnering eight percent and 6.7 percent, respectively. The opposition Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) would win 5.9 percent and the ruling coalition member the SNS party 5.2 percent. Below the five-percent threshold securing seats in parliament would be the third ruling coalition member the Movement for Democratic Slovakia, HZDS (4.4 percent) and KSS (1.3 percent), SITA wrote.
