SLOVAK competition and an attempt at a Slovak record in spading was organised during the 5th year of the orcharding and farming JAHRADA in Expo Centre Trenčín on October 24 and 25.

Among 13 brave gardeners – 11 men and two women – the winner and record-holder in spading is Martin Hriňák from Košice. Igor Svítok of the Slovak records company informed the TASR newswire that the contestants were supposed to spade a plot of 6.3 square metres each in the shortest time possible. Hriňák did so in 15.43 minutes, followed by Ladislav Kása of Hrubý Šúr and Imrich Božík from Prešov (who also got the prize for the most decoratively spaded plot). The winner of the female category was Gabriela Bozulová, with a time of 24.18 minutes – placing seventh over all.
