The law on presidential elections is absurd and prevents people from getting to know the candidates, said non-parliamentary Free Forum (SF) presidential candidate Zuzana Martináková on Tuesday, January 27, after submitting petition sheets supporting her candidacy to the office of Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paška.
"We handed in approximately 22,000 signatures," she told the TASR newswire.
The presidential elections act, which permits only 13 days of active campaigning, doesn't allow the public to become acquainted with the candidates, said Martináková, claiming that her philosophy is just the opposite.
She appealed to journalists to provide room for all presidential candidates to present themselves. Martináková intends to orient her campaign on problems faced by the family, which have deepened due to the economic crisis. She also emphasised that, unlike other presidential candidates, she belonged to neither the governing coalition nor the Opposition.
