Chair of the Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO-NOVA) movement Igor Matovič concealed accounting documents of the company regionPress for the years 2002-2004 from investigators.
Such is the declaration from a resolution on the halt of criminal prosecution over distortion of data in the financial and commercial records in relation to the company regionPress. The investigator of the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) had to halt the prosecution, however, as the act was time-barred, the Plus Jeden Deň Daily reported.
The resolution to the case has 31 pages. The document, which the daily received based on the law on free access to information, includes the testimonies of witnesses and the evidence which proves Matovič committed a crime. The investigation was halted in February 2017, which was later confirmed also by the prosecutor.
NAKA investigator claimed that Matovič sold his family firm regionPress in 2008 to Pavol Vandák, with the aim to manipulate accounting books. The reason was that at the time the tax officers carried out an inspection on the Trnava-based firm, during which they revealed some disparities in accounting, Plus Jeden Deň reported.
One of them concerned the purchase of the printing machine Man Roland. As a statutory representative, Matovič did not define it as acquired property, explaining he bought the machine with the aim to sell it later. The resolution of the case indicates that he wanted to avoid paying tax amounting to more than €71,000.
Tax officers thus asked Matovič to submit an agreement to prove the machine was meant to be sold or that it had already been sold. The MP did so in November 2007. It states that the machine was sold by Igor Matovič, self-employed, to Igor Matovič, a limited liability company. One month later, the tax inspectors found out the machine was being used for printing. Some employees even claimed they had been using it for two years, Plus Jeden Deň wrote.
The police did not scrutinise the accounting documents concerning the years 2002-2004 as they could not find them. Matovič says he did not destroy the books.
