The strongest ruling coalition party, Smer, would have won the parliamentary elections with 33.7 percent if it had been held in May, shows an opinion poll conducted by the Agency for Public Opinion Research among 1,118 respondents from May 10 to May 19, the SITA newswire wrote.
The opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) would have collected 15.5 percent and the Christian Democrats (KDH) 10.3 percent.
As many as 50.2 percent of those surveyed would certainly participate in the elections and 27.6 percent said they would likely cast their ballot. The remaining 22.2 percent said they would unlikely or definitely not take part in the elections or could not answer the question, the SITA newswire wrote. Parliamentary elections in Slovakia will be held on June 12.
According to the opinion poll, seven political parties would make it into the parliament, including the newly registered Slovak political party AZEN-Alliance for a Europe of Nations. The party was supported by 5.1 percent in the survey. Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) would collect 9.4 percent, Most-Híd enjoys the support of 6 percent and 5.2 percent spoke in favour of the Slovak National Party (SNS) in the poll.
The Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) would have won 4.1 percent, which is not enough for a parliamentary mandate. Among other parties that would be left outside the parliament are the Hungarian Coalition Party, SMK, (3.3 percent), Slovak Communist Party, KSS (1.2 percent) and the People's Party Our Slovakia, ĽSNS, (1.1 percent). The remaining parties on the Slovak political scene would get less than one percent.
