TA3 television reported on September 6 that police and forensic specialists had decoded the so-called 'Mečiar cassette', which allegedly includes the list of affected clients of the unlicensed deposit companies BMG Invest and Horizont Slovakia.
Slovak Deputy General Prosecutor Ctibor Košťál confirmed to SLOVAKIA that the Prosecutor's Office had a parcel presented to it by the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS), but said the Prosecutor's Office wouldn't made its contents public.
According to previous comments by LS-HZDS leader Vladimír Mečiar, who submitted the cassette to the General Prosecutor's Office in 2004, it should include the list of constitutional officials and companies that had deposited money with the fraudulent companies and drawn 30-percent annual interest from them.
B.M.G. Invest, Ltd. was established on January 4, 1995 and Horizont Slovakia, a joint stock company, was established on June 26, 1996. By the time they closed on February 4, 2002, they had signed 856,006 contracts, with deposits totalling Sk62,873,192,559.
Horizont Slovakia head Vladimír Fruni and his partners Anna Molcanová and Marián Šebeščák were found guilty of fraud and breach of contract in connection with the bankruptcy of non-banking financial institutions. The accusation specified the damage at more than Sk14 billion, represented by unpaid deposits. All received lengthy prison sentences. TASR
