Prime Minister Robert Fico told a meeting of the coalition council that he was not willing to continue in the coalition, according to the HZDS chair Vladimír Mečiar.
"He asked us to give some proposals; I do not know what proposals. He blamed the HZDS for making innumerable mistakes in three days, which he was not ready to tolerate," Mečiar told journalists, after walking out of the coalition council meeting.
Mečiar told his deputy chairs to stay at the meeting if they wished. However, they followed him after several minutes.
According to Mečiar, Fico announced at the coalition meeting that he “was not in favour of this coalition existing”.
Mečiar said he was curious about Smer´s next steps.
Ján Slota, chair of the junior coalition SNS party, said he does not think that the early departure of Mečiar and his deputies from the doalition douncil meeting would automatically mean the end of the government.
