Parliament is this week due to choose candidates for appointment as disciplinary court judges, who assess the conduct of judges and impose penalties against them for disciplinary infringements.
MPs will have 11 names to choose from, ten of whom have been proposed by Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) chairman Vladimir Mečiar, and the other by his fellow party member Katarína Tóthová MP. Candidates need to secure a majority of votes from the MPs present to be elected, the TASR newswire wrote.
According to the law, candidates can only become disciplinary court judges if they have served as judges for at least the previous five years, are not subject to disciplinary proceedings, are not being prosecuted, have not been penalised by a disciplinary court and are not members of the Judicial Council or chairs or vice-chairs of a court.
