Speaking on Slovak TV on July 17, Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar said the post-revolution Czechoslovak counter- intelligence service, the FBIS, had planned to murder him before the 1992 elections. FBIS treated us as "extremists," Mečiar said, adding that "I was supposed to be arrested, and there even exists evidence that they planned my murder."
