THE HEALTH condition of Vladimír Mečiar, chairman of the governing coalition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), has stabilized after his heart surgery on January 21.
His recovery is proceeding just as it should, the head of the Central-Slovak Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Peter Mečiar, informed journalists yesterday.
If no complications arise, Vladimír Mečiar could be released from hospital by the end of this week. Doctors say he might be able to return to work in two or three weeks.
Mečiar had a quadruple bypass on Sunday. A team of surgeons comprised of specialists from Banská Bystrica and Košice carried out the operation. The operation took three hours and fifteen minutes and no complications occurred. The patient was connected to a heart-lung machine and his heart was stopped for 41 minutes.
