Media: Journalist Award 2007 handed out

The Journalist Award 2007 was recently given out in 13 categories at a gala on the Ship-Theatre under the Deck in Bratislava.

The Journalist Award 2007 was recently given out in 13 categories at a gala on the Ship-Theatre under the Deck in Bratislava.

In total, 493 authors and 833 works were considered, which is a record number in the awards’ four years of existence. Three- to five-member juries consisting of renowned journalists from Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland chose the winners.

Only works published or broadcast from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007 were eligible.

The winner for best report in print media was Andrej Bán for a series published in Týždeň. Best report in electronic media was won by Martin Mózer (TV JOJ). Best interview in print media went to Karol Sudor (Sme.sk) for a series of interviews. Best interview or discussion in electronic media went to Petra Strižková and Jana Pataráková, who co-authored the fourth part (SRo - Rádio Slovensko).

The winner for best work with a regional focus in print media went to Michal Frank (Prešovský Korzár). The best work with a regional focus in electronic media went to Gabriel Kladek (TV NAŠA - Košice). Marek Vagovič (Sme) was awarded best investigative reporting in print media and Ivan Brada (STV) received the award for electronic media.

The category for best editorial in print media was won by Tom Nicholson (Sme). The best short documentary work in print media went to Rado Ondřejíček (T-Station). Andrej Bán (Týždeň) also won best photojournalism. The category best cartoon, comic, or caricature went to Martin "Shooty" Šútovec (Sme). Best story published on a blog went to Jozef Drahovský (blog.sme.sk).

Vincent Štofaník received the Open Society Award and Marek Vagovič (Sme) received an award from the Association of Periodical Press Publishers. A special award for vital contributions to Slovak caricature art went to Ladislav Belica.

The public will have the chance to get to know the authors and their work at the "NO COMMENT" exhibition, which runs from April 30 to May 25 in the Open Gallery at Baštová Street 5 in Bratislava.
