Rumours that a meeting could take place between US President Barack Obama and his Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Bratislava have been scotched.
The Slovak president's office confirmed that Medvedev will arrive alone on April 6 for a two-day visit. He will attend celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava by the Red Army, Slovak dailies reported on March 25. Medvedev is scheduled to meet all three of Slovakia’s top constitutional officials. A group of businessmen will accompany him, including Russian Railways president Vladimir Yakunin, Russian Embassy press attaché Alexey Korneyev confirmed to Sme.
Talks are expected to include a planned broad-gauge rail link from Russia to Vienna via Ukraine and Slovakia. The Slovak Transport Ministry has declared the project to be of strategic interest.
